Conspiracy or Coincidence? While Ebola, MERS and Ross River viruses were named after their origin location, none of the Chinese origin viruses like SARS & CoronaVirus were

Watching Shekhar Gupta's episode on COVID-19 today was an eye-opener. Why is it that almost all major viruses in contemporary history were named after the location where they were originated but this rule doesn't apply to the Chinese origin viruses? Is it due to the special clout they enjoy in the UN and WHO (World Health Organization)?

After all, it was only in December, 2019 that the WHO President, Tedros Adhanom shook hands with Xi Jinping and not only lauded him for his "efforts" against the CoronaVirus disease but also reassured the entire world that the CoronaVirus isn't contagious at all!

If we were to make such an implication (as the title suggests) a few months ago, we'd have been called conspiracy theorists. But it doesn't sound like a conspiracy theory now, does it? How much more damage is the world going to suffer before it stands up to China and asks it the tough questions it deserves to be asked? Probably never because the supplies of iPhones and other gizmos are far more important for the capitalist system than people's lives but one day they'll have to. One day, someone from the free world will have to stand up to the dragon and ask why it failed to share vital information about this disease that could have helped us save thousands of lives across Europe and Americas (and even Asia).

Its not just about Ebola and MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome), there are many others too such as Hanta virus (named after a Korean river) or the Zika Virus (named after the Ziika river in Uganda). But why is it so that when it comes to naming the Chinese viruses like SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) or COVID-19, the biologists shy away from naming it after the dragon? Does this indicate that China has so much of a clout in the international community that people are afraid of speaking anything against it? Maybe, but sooner or later someone will have to stand up to them, I hope that at least the Italians and Spanish will!
