Twitter will remove inactive accounts from December

According to recent news reports, the social media platform Twitter has decided to terminate the accounts of all users who haven't logged in since a very long time, such users have already been notified of this through emails.

11th December is the final deadline for such users to login to their twitter account and follow the on-screen instructions.

The social media giant hasn't commented on why they are taking this step and whether the terminated handles will be available for use later by new users who register. However, one may speculate that this could be related to the data collection frenzy being in the downward trend globally since last few years as data storage and electronics costs haven't managed to stay low in conformance to the Moore's law.

Update

Mashable and Gizmodo have also confirmed this news, and it looks like the new handles are indeed going to be available for registration in future. Many are touting this to be a bad news for those who have already registered an original and creative handle which can now be just taken by whoever happens to land on that first.
