Security Experts confirm that Ring Doorbell Android app covertly shares personal information with 3rd Parties

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has just found in an independent security audit that the Ring Android app covertly shares data with 3rd party companies including Facebook.

An investigation by EFF of the Ring doorbell app for Android found it to be packed with third-party trackers sending out a plethora of customers’ personally identifiable information (PII). Four main analytics and marketing companies were discovered to be receiving information such as the names, private IP addresses, mobile network carriers, persistent identifiers, and sensor data on the devices of paying customers.

Developer trust and security audits are very important in an ecosystem like Android where its quite trivial for a rogue developer to push malicious apps which compromise user data, EFF's work in this regard is quite commendable.
