Good News for India: Customs clearance time will be reduced from 12 hours to 12 minutes as government introduces blockchain and automation to the process

According to recent reports, the Indian govt. is going to take some drastic steps in IT Automation by introducing blockchain, AI and ML to the process of customs clearance at Indian ports like JNPT and Nava Sheva in Mumbai. This is part of the efforts to improve India's ranking in ease of doing business globally.

According to the linked report, JNPT (Mumbai) port presently takes about 82 hours on average for an importer's goods to clear out of which 12 hours are spent in customs clearance. After these new measures are introduced, the clearance process will be speedier which should make all importers and exporters happier, startups and large businesses alike.

Another important win from this is that physical documentation will be drastically reduced and a lot of workforce will be free to be allocated elsewhere.
