I get really thrilled and delighted when I see a capitalist company leave aside their profits for a while and start caring about the environment. One such company is India's popular e-commerce retailer called BigBasket.com which is a common name in many Indian households.
For staples like fruits, vegetables, etc. which require packaging, they've started this new initiative called You Return, We Recycle. Not only do they use recyclable cardboard boxes to package these items instead of toxic plastic which adds to the global waste of pollutants, they also offer to recycle it themselves - all you have to do is hand them over the empty boxes when they visit next time to deliver your groceries!
Imagine if every other major e-tailer like Amazon, Flipkart, eBay, etc. starts doing this! Imagine if every major departmental store like Walmart, Big Bazaar and Reliance Mart also starts doing this! Then how much more beautiful and toxin-free our planet would be!
As the very emotional Greta Thunberg recently expressed at a UN environmental summit recently, the state of plastic wastage is too bad on our planet. All this waste either sits in the oceans and play havoc with our ecosystem or gets dumped in 3rd world African countries killing people of air pollution.
I really hope that other companies learn something from big-basket and start taking similar decisions to save our planet. They can do it because they are the capitalists - they have the power to do so. People like you and me can only spread awareness about this.
